Oxygen for the "Albufera"
In
accordance with this that the people in charge of the Natural Park have indicated,
the depurated water that comes out of Emarsa is very beneficial for the fauna
and flora that is developed in the Albufera, since it supposes an injection
of clean and oxygenated water face the high quantity of dirty and polluted
water that runs through the irrigation ditch that ends in the lagoon.
The bacillus, micro-organisms and pollutants
of industrial origin, which are in this dirty and polluted water, consume
oxygen that exists in the water of the "Albufera". This complicates
the animals and plants life that grow in this area. However, the water that
comes from the Pinedo's Waterworks, which is charged of oxygen, contributes
to the maintenance and regeneration of the "Albufera".
Nowadays, the "Albufera" receives approximately
4000 m3. of depurated water in Emarsa. They constitute the surpluses of water
that are used for watering more or less 15.000 anegadas of rice which end
in the lagoon because of the gravity. According to the people in charge of
the Natural Park, the tenth part of the water comes from the Pinedo's Waterworks
and is very necessary for the maintenance of this humid area.
Despite
this affirmation, the depurated water in Emarsa contains nutrients like nitrogen
and phosphorous, between others. These nutrients are very beneficial for all
kind of plants but not for the "Albufera". The excess of nutrients
doesn't favour to the water of the lagoon since it produces the phenomenon
called "eutrofizacion", it means, water with too much nourishment
that makes a non-controlled growing of seaweed.
For this reason, it has been contemplated the establishment of a "Biologic Caudal" in the enlargement works that are being made in the installations of the Pinedo's Waterworks. It will eliminate the phosphorous and the nitrogen which are the main cause of the "eutrofización".
