Services we give to the community

We want to be big in Europe and to get it we are growing. In May of 2001 started the works of enlargement of the Pinedo's Waterworks. When these works have been finished they will give to the water that come out of Emarsa a purified grade of 99'9 % in their more significant parameters. This fact DOESN'T make water is drinkable and good for the human consume.

According to the Valencian Parliament, more or less 361 millions of cubic metres per year are depurated in the Valencian Community. Approximately, 120 millions of treated water in the Pinedo's Waterworks in 2003 situate this Waterworks in the first place in volume in the Valencian Community and third in Spain behind big cities like Madrid and Barcelona.

The mercantile Emarsa counts on two waterworks of residual water: EDAR I and EDAR II. In the first, water receives Pre-treatment, Primary, Physical-Chemical Treatment, Biological and Secondary Treatment. In the second, the "black water" are subjected to a Pre-treatment, Physical-Chemical and Primary.

With all this, the waterworks station fulfils with five functions:

"Protect the "Albufera": More than 4000 metres of depurated water arrive at the lagoon each year. They constitute an ecological flow that ends in the "Albufera" and favour the maintenance and regeneration of their water, fauna and flora. Before the extention, the Natural Park will receive more quantity of depurated water and of a better quality.

"Increase the quality of irrigation water": More than 15.000 anegadas of rice and irrigated region have been watered with depurated water in Emarse since 1985. Before this date the irrigation water that circulated by the irrigation ditches didn't receive any treatment.

"Reuse the mood in the agriculture": Mood causes over the crops a similar effect to the habitual mineral fertilizer.

"Drain the beaches and the sea water": The water of the Pinedo's Waterworks has been arriving at sea since 1991. In this year, the Submarine Emissary started to work. Before this year the sea received the "black water" without any type of treatment. According to the European Community qualifications, with this action, a sensitive improvement in the sea water has been producer, making this water good for the bath.

"Generate electric energy": Mood in its digestion produces methane gas that is used in the Pinedo's Waterworks to get electricity. This electricity provides part of the energetic necessities of the treatment plant.

Furthermore, Emarsa collaborate in the environment education of the citizens, who come to our installations to know the different process that the residual water receives. Before a complex treatment, this water presents a crystalline aspect. In the last three years, the Pinedo's Waterworks has received the visit of more than 15.000 people, between students and adults.
